RE: ROLL OUT OF THE EAST AFRICAN e-PASSPORT

The Mission wishes to inform that the use of the old generation machine readable passports has been extended from 31st August 2019 to 1st March 2020.
Kenyans are urged to take advantage of the extension and not wait until the last minute to apply. 
Kenya High Commission will continue to share your concerns with relevant Authorities as it lobby for issuance of e-Passports in Canberra.

This is to acknowledge receipt of your open letter on your concerns regarding issuance of E-passports in Canberra. We wish to assure you that the Kenya High Commission has been at the forefront in lobbying for the same, fully cognizant of the distance between Canberra and Nairobi and aware of your rights to access Consular Services in a timely and convenient manner.
We will continue to share your concerns with the relevant Authorities.

The Kenya High Commission, Canberra stands ready to roll-out the issuance of the E-passports. We are confident of a positive response from the Immigration Department, that is also scheduled to announce guidelines on the post 1st September 2019 date.

We once again commend the Kenyan Diaspora in Australia and New Zealand for turning up in large numbers for the recently concluded Huduma Namba Registration Exercise. We thank you and salute you for your patriotism, diligence and patience. The large turnout is another big justification for the case of E-passport issuance in this Region.

A. The Process of Huduma Namba Registration for Kenyan Diaspora:

1. The respondent needs to log on the following portal:
2. https://diaspora.hudumanamba.go.ke
3. Click on REGISTER NOW, which takes you to Portal Login.
4. Click CREATE NEW ACCOUNT, which takes you to Create Account page.
5. Input your FIRST NAME and EMAIL address then click CREATE ACCOUNT.
6. An email will be sent to you with a USERNAME and PASSWORD, which you will use to register.

B. To avoid interruption during the registration process, ensure that you have the following documents:

1. COMPULSORY primary document, which could be either Kenyan National Identity Card, Kenyan Passport or Birth Certificate. 
2. You are also encouraged to provide as much information on your personal documents relating to Driving Licence, NHIF Card, NEMIS Card or number, KRA PIN Certificate or number and NSSF Number, among others. 
3. Children below the age of six (6) are exempted from biometrics and photos, however, you will still need to bring them for confirmation purposes, along their REFERENCE and DOCUMENT numbers and their original registration documents (Kenyan birth certificate or passport). Children should be registered using their parents email address.

C. Once you complete the online registration process and submit:

1. An Email will be sent to you confirming your online registration. 
2. The email will provide a REFERENCE and DOCUMENT Numbers. 

D. Kindly make arrangements to present yourself to the Huduma Namba Registration Officer at the Kenya High Commission or in the designated venues in cities in Australia with:

1. REFERENCE Number
2. DOCUMENT Number
3. ORIGINAL primary document that is listed under (b) above. 

E. The Registration Officer will then take your FACIAL PHOTO and CAPTURE FINGERPRINTS (biometrics) as well as the documents presented.

Following the successful roll-out of the Huduma Namba Registration process in Canberra on 6th May 2019, and feedback received from Kenyans in the Diaspora the High Commission is pleased to inform of additional Huduma Namba centres and dates.

While the process will continue to be undertaken in Canberra (43 Culgoa Circuit, O’Malley Act 2606), you are asked to take note and diarize the following dates and Cities in the rollout.

1. Auckland/Christchurch (New Zealand) Friday- Sunday 17/5/2019 to 20/5/2019
2. Melbourne (Victoria State) Thursday- Sunday 23/5/2019 to 26/5/2019
3. Perth (Western Australia) Friday-Monday 31/5/2019 to 3/6/2019
4. Darwin (Northern Territory) Sunday 2/6/2019 
5. Brisbane (Queensland State) Friday- Sunday 14/6/2019 to 16/6/2019
6. Adelaide (South Australia) Thursday - Sunday 6/6/2019 to 9/6/2019

We shall inform you of the venues in the next few days. In the meantime you are encouraged to undertake the online registration that will facilitate the exercise with the Huduma Namba registration officers who will be present at the above cities and in Canberra.

Why Huduma Namba?
To integrate and harmonize national identity data through biometric registration of all citizens and foreign nationals residing in Kenya to inform planning for national development through implementation of the Big 4 Agenda.

To assign a personal unique identification number to facilitate access to government services.

b) ADVISABLE BUT NOT COMPLUSORY: -You are also encouraged to provide as much information on your personal documents relating to Driving License, NHIF Card, NEMIS Card or number, KRA PIN Certificate or number and NSSF Number, among others.

Once you complete the registration process and submit, an email will be sent to you confirming your online registration. The email will provide a Reference Number and Document Number.

Kindly make arrangements to physically present yourself at the Kenya High Commission in Canberra or at the above assigned cities with the REFERENCE & DOCUMENT NUMBERS together with the original document that is listed under (a) above. During registration your facial photo and finger-prints (biometrics) will be taken.

This is to inform all Kenyans resident in Australia, New Zealand and in the Pacific Islands that Huduma Namba registration for Kenyans in the Diaspora began today 6th May 2019 at the High Commission of the Republic of Kenya in Canberra, 43 Culgoa Circuit, O’Malley ACT 2606 and will run for the next 45 days from Monday to Sunday between 9:00am and 5:00pm.

As you are aware, the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS), commonly referred to as Huduma Namba was developed with an objective to create a National Integrated Biometric population database as “The single source of truth” of information on persons’ identity for all Kenyan Citizens and Foreign Nationals residing in Kenya.

What is Huduma Namba?
Huduma Namba is a programme which was initiated through Executive Order No. 1 of 2018 (National Integrated Identity Management System) to create and manage a Central Master Population Register. Huduma Namba is legally grounded on Sec 9A of the Registration of Persons Act, 2018.

We wish to inform all Kenyans living in Australia that following the tragic accident on 10th March 2019 of Ethiopia Airline flight ET 302 from Addis Ababa to Nairobi, which resulted in the loss of 157 lives from 35 nations including 32 Kenyans, the High Commission will open a Condolence Book. The Condolence Book will be available for signing as follows:

Kenya Labour Migration Website

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the National Employment Authority (NEA) launched the "Kenya Labour Migration Website" on 29th January 2019 in Nairobi. The purpose of the website is to raise awareness about safe and fair migration among prospective migrant workers to countries with which the Government of Kenya has signed Bilateral Labour Agreements i.e. the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and United Arab Emirates. Other destination countries will progressively be included in the website as soon as Kenya concludes Bilateral Labour Agreements with them.

The Kenya High Commission in Canberra celebrated the 55th Jamhuri Day with pomp and colour. The event, which was graced by Ms. Lyndall Sachs, Chief of Protocol at the Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, was held at the National Museum of Australian on 10th December 2018. His Excellency, Isaiya Kabira, Kenya’s High Commissioner to Australia and New Zealand said the event offered an opportunity to reflect on the road Kenya has travelled and acknowledge the challenges faced and overcome and celebrate achievements that have defined Kenya’s nationhood.

Registration of Kenyan Diaspora and Participation in the General Elections

The Independent and Boundaries Commission of Kenya (IEBC) will soon begin the process of registering Kenyan citizens of eligible age for elections, in accordance with Article 83 (1) of the Constitution.

In this regard, Kenyan citizens in the Diaspora are expected to be registered and participate in the general elections as per the provisions in Article 82 (1) (e ) of the Constitution, which calls for “the progressive registration of citizens residing outside Kenya, and the progressive realization of their right to vote”.

This is therefore to URGENTLY request you to email us an updated list of your contact details for onward transmission to the Commission by 29th August 2014.

The East Africa Community in Canberra ( EACA ) celebrated the national days of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania at a colourful celebration last Saturday. Well done to the personalities who were recognised for their contribution to the East African diaspora including Ms Fatma Abdullah. Lots of nyama choma was served despite the heavy rains that pounded Canberra on Saturday. The East Africans led by High Commissioner Isaiya Kabira expressed best wishes to His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta who was vindicated last Friday after the ICC dropped chrages.
